The history of our school
(insofar as it is already written….)
2005-2006
Committed parents and teachers established the evangelical School Society Haldensleben on their own initiative in July 2005.
2006-2007
After extensive preparations it was possible to make the request to the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs on 28December 2006.
In 2007 the friends’ association became the support association / sponsor agency.
2007-2008
The Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs approved the establishment of an independent secondary school on 28 August 2007. Our school opened its doors in the building of the grammar school (Heinrich-Heine-Grammar School) on 30August 2007.
At the very beginning there was a class which consisted of 10 girls and 12 boys. Ms. Meyer was a class teacher and Ms. Lähnemann was the first headmaster.
The Stone Age project, the Polish students’ visit to our school and the high-rope climbing garden were special highlights in the first school year.
Many different towns of the Evangelical Church of the Province of Saxony /Church province of Central Germany were eager (wanted) to launch an initiative to establish a school, so the Regional Church together with the Order of St John (Johanniterorden) and the medical help organization “Johanniter-Unfallhilfe” supported this initiative. In the spring 2008 the school foundation (Johannes-Schulstiftung) was founded.
2008-2009
In the school year 2008/2009 the Evangelical secondary school Haldensleben was the first secondary school of the school foundation (Johannes-Schulstiftung).
At that time there were 2 classes at our school. Ms. Wilhayn was a class teacher of Year 5.
2009-2010
In the school year 2009/10 we had 3 classes (Year 5, 6, 7) with the class teachers Ms. Meyer, Ms. Wilhayn and Ms. Behringer. The lessons were still held in the building of the Heinrich-Heine-Grammar School.
2010-2011
Three years later in July 2010 we got the state recognition from the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs and since the school year 2010/11 we are named “state-approved private school”.
In the same year Ms. Kampelmann started working at the school as a new headmaster. Together with other new colleagues and students she was ceremonially blessed during a worship service on 5 August 2010.
In the 4th school year there were four classes. Ms. Schulze joined our school community as a new class teacher.
In November 2011 the key objectives of our school were discussed and resolved at a conference.
In the spring 2011 the first blessing service was held for Year 8 as an alternative to the youth initiation ceremony. It was a special festive ceremony for our school.
The school has five departments (Languages, Science and Math, Social Sciences, Home Economics and Career Guidance, Physical Education and et al.) to improve interdepartmental cooperation.
2011-2012
After we had spent six months in the temporary quarters / alternative accommodation in Alt-Haldensleben, we moved to our final new school building am Waldring in the district “Süplinger Berg” of Haldensleben in the summer 2011.
In the school year 2011/12 we had already 6 classes with 135 pupils (Year 5-9) who come from different places of our neighborhood. Ms. Warmbein and Ms. Leituger became new class teachers.
That year two classes Year 5 were enrolled for the first time because of the great demand.
In the autumn our redesigned school library was opened. Some pupils are responsible for the lending of books.
On 12December our school was especially appreciated. Former German President Richard v. Weizsäcker personally received the school delegation in his office in Berlin. As a part of the donation project “Germany helps”, he handed pupil representatives a donation for our school.
With the support of the Kreissparkasse we launched a weekly workshop for Year 9 where the students can apply practically the knowledge they have gained in mathematics, physics and chemistry. For this purpose we signed a cooperation agreement with the German manufacturer of wind energy converters Enercon in Magdeburg.
The blessing ceremony for Year 8 took place for a second time in our school.
The medical service conducted by Ms. Ostrowski started its work in May 2012. The students from Year 7 were trained by the youth of the Johanniter Order.
At the end of the school year in July 2012 students took exams to obtain the Certificate of Secondary Education (CSE) (erweiterte Haupschulabschluss).
For the pupils, who get the General Certificate of Secondary Education (Realschulabschluss) at the end of the school year 2012/13, a cooperation agreement between the school foundation and the integrated comprehensive school “Willy Brandt” in Magdeburg was concluded on 26 June 2012. This agreement makes it possible for the students to provide a meaningful educational continuation of their school career up to the high school.
2012-2013
At the beginning of the school year 2012/13 162 boys and girls learnt in 8 classes in grades 5 to 10. Years 5 and 6 were already with two parallel classes. Ms. Große and Mr. Töpper were new class teachers.
Shortly after the summer holidays, the “room of silence” was inaugurated thanks to a donation from the church district and active support of many individuals.
The department of religious education was appointed due to its special importance.
The College has expanded to already 20 teachers and educational staff.
For the first time the Convent of the church district met in our school in September 2012.
In the autumn of 2012 within the framework of the EU programme Stark III we were promised to get a grant, the amount of EUR 2.2 million, for the energy-oriented renovation of our school building.
